Hi guys,
My names Jonny, I'm a very proud founding member of SZ back in 2003. This doesn't make me as nearly proud as I am of playing on this incredible team today. I'm here to introduce you to the team in my own words and share with you what SZ players are entitled to, what is expected of you and what you can expect in return.
If you're reading this either you couldn't resist a wee look (that’s cool!) or you're interested in joining our squad (right on!) I'm hoping it's the latter as we are hoping to really fill out our ranks over the next couple of months and train up a completely solid, dependable and reliable squad of individuals that can really do the team, brand and each other proud.
See Subzero is really more than just a bunch of individuals; it's more than a brand, an image or group of friends. When I say SZ is a second family to every player and player’s partner I exaggerate not, this is a claim I know everyone will support. The bond that quickly develops between players on this team is incredible and every individual is brought in with open arms by all. There is no nit picking, no hidden pressure to succeed or blame if we don't. There is no rivalry in house or favourites amongst seasoned players not necessarily because this is counter productive but because we're all too close even care about such trivial matters. We all take the steps to victory together and it shows on the field. Sure we win some, we lose some and this will always happen but the fire that burns in everyone, the pure passion is something that cannot help but be noticed by others. When a player joins SZ, they join with a will to play the game, when a player plays for SZ they quickly realise a love for it too. When we step on the field, we play with heart.
As a team we train once a week physically. It's literally outside of a paintball environment utilising a qualified football coach’s advice and physical drills to enhance key parts of our body to make us stronger and faster on field. This might sound formal and grueling but to be honest it is fantastic fun and there is a lot in there each week that helps with general fitness. It also gets us all together in different surroundings where we can go through the drills but also have a laugh with one and other and generally enjoy ourselves.
We share at least one social event each week, this might be meeting up for a bash on the x-box 360's, a night on the town, chilling with a film, catching a film at the cinema, a game of pool at the pub, sitting down with a couple of cans and a new paintball movie one of us have got our hands on or just having a blast at something completely random. These always end up being a fantastic laugh. There always ends up being some in joke that everyone quotes or someone doing something stupid. I love sharing time with this motley bunch. Every ones partners are lovely too. The girls and guys always bring another side to the team (in addition to keeping the players in line) and are simply another part of the team. They are as much a part of Subzero as the players and not a day goes by we don't respect them for it. They are honestly like second family.
In addition to the physical we also train on the paintball tournament field at least once a month. These are generally open sessions at Rockcliffe with a few other local teams where we can tighten up, lock in and really push it to the limit. We always end up trying new moves out, new plays and juggle things around to get the very best out of the team during these sessions. We don't win every game but we do take away so much from them. Everything is filmed and photographed too which we all love. Not only does it allow us a chance to see what works afterwards but it's nice to keep, show off and reminders to hold on to in the future.
Finally, there are the tournaments. We currently play once a month although if we could build up a large enough squad this would allow us to present a team at more national events and as a team play more. These events run generally throughout the year breaking in November and starting back up again in January. The major series we play is the UK Masters which is broken up into eight rounds with an overall winner on the day, trophies and prizes in addition to an accumulated total at the end of all eight events. After this the Scottish SPPS runs through until November as an additional option to play.
SZ is currently supported by discount through Justpaintball.co.uk and powered by JTUSA's fantastic line of equipment. This grants our players discount on playing equipment in addition to a fantastic paintball deal we receive to fuel our guns during training and tournaments, thanks to the lovely people who continue to power SZ we are able to spend less on equipment and more on game time.
So there are always plenty of things happening. There are always lots going on and lots to gain. Paintball in the UK will never allow a tournament team to be supported through winnings. The game isn't big enough here and most probably never will be, but what it does do is open you up to a sport, a community and a passion you'll take with you throughout the rest of your years. What Subzero does is allow us all to come together and use all of these.
So if after reading though that you think you've got the buzz, got what it takes and looking for the glory on field, the friendship off and a legacy to present to the family many moons from now drop me a message below or a private message and I'll get back to you ASAP. We're looking forward to hearing from you gunfighter.
